Filmmaking Adventures: Update on my Proof of Concept Horror Scene and transferring my short Vietnam Script to Video
“Not all those who wander are lost” J.R.R. Tolkien
Vietnam
I wrote the story Vietnam when I was on oxygen and recovering from COVID-19. There were times when I was lying in the hospital bed, and I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it. I remember looking out of the hospital window, and a statue outside of my window would comfort me. I don’t know if the statue was Jesus or a Saint, but I thought it was Jesus at the time.
I made it through and was released home but on oxygen. During this time, I mustered up the strength to write the short script Vietnam. I began thinking about making films again. It was something I had dreamed about since childhood, but somehow, going down the paths of life, I lost my way. But was I really lost?

There were times with God that I was blessed to experience that I would not trade for anything during those years that I could have been writing. But now I have the bug again, and I feel God’s blessing on it. Even though it is what some would consider trash horror. One man’s trash is another man’s art. The character Nick Moore (Scott Eugene Valentine) from the show Family Ties understood this concept more than anyone.
I made a video of my Vietnam story. I didn’t hire anyone to do it; I did it myself this time. The story started as a script and became a short story; now it is a video if you want to read the original version, then Vietnam.
I hope you enjoy the video. I enjoyed making it.
Update on my Proof-of-Concept Scene
I can not believe that this is finally coming together. For the past few weeks, I have been auditioning actresses for the lead in my proof-of-concept horror scene. I was surprised at how many talented actresses were interested in the scene.
I went to the location and had it confirmed. They were very nice and showed me around. I’m excited! I still need a sound person with their own sound kit to record sound on set. I also need an FX person for practical effects and makeup. If you know someone in the Nashville area or someone willing to travel, then let me know.
If any filmmakers or film students would like to make my short Vietnam horror script into a short then let me know. I have been thinking about doing it, but I am focused on making my proof of concept scene and my feature.
A depressing horror story but for fellow Americans I hope you have a fantastic Fourth of July this year!
